Pio Altarelli is a past President of the club and has been a committee member for over 10 years. Following an apprenticeship and eight years as a vehicle technician in the Waveney Valley (R Charlish of Bungay), Pio gained a Certificate in Education at Huddersfield which resulted in thirty one years at Norwich City College as a Lecturer in Motor vehicle Engineering. In the fifteen years leading up to his retirement in 2006, he was Manager of the automotive division. During this time he also worked as a consultant with the University of East Anglia on a research project identifying embodied knowledge skills required of a vehicle technician, as well as close liaison with the Motor Engineering department of the State University of New York at Canton College of Technology where he was an Honorary Professor in 1992/3. In the early 1990's he carried out research for a Bachelors' Degree into the emerging computer controlled electronic fuel injection systems and in 1994 researched the development of practitioner led appraisal systems for his Masters Degree. Under his management, the Motor Vehicle Department at Norwich City College was the only one in Norfolk and Suffolk to be approved by the Ford Motor Company to operate courses for its apprenticeship training programme.
He is a Fellow, past Chairman and Secretary of the Norfolk Centre of the IMI. He is also a Member of the IRTE, an Incorporated Engineer and a Fellow of the Motor Industry.
